As criminal use of the Internet becomes more and more sophisticated, law enforcement's ability to locate and act on publicly available information is more crucial than ever. Investigators must be able to turn information from varied sources into actionable intelligence as quickly and efficiently as possible. This presentation covers mainstream social media sites as well as third-party websites that can allow for quicker identification of potentially relevant information. This workshop will only be recorded and available On-Demand from August 9, 2021 until December 17, 2021.
Students will be able to identify the types of data retained, the types of internet service providers, and popular free online investigative tools.
Students will be able to trace an IP Address.
Students will be able to identify utilities to capture information and demonstrate the use of text, image, and HTML capturing utilities.
Students will learn how to search for open-source information about themselves and understand how this carries over for searching about a person of interest.
