County Attorney Ravalli County (MT) Attorney's Office
Corroborating a child’s disclosures of sexual abuse is critical to both a successful prosecution and the protection of the victim. Using examples from child sexual assault cases prosecuted by the presenter, this workshop focuses on the important specific areas of corroborating evidence, how to identify, locate and present that evidence, and the significance of the evidence in the investigation and prosecution of child sexual assaults. Further, the dynamics of the child victim’s relationship with the offender needs to be understood in the investigation and explained through the corroborating evidence at trial. Because most child sexual assault investigations lack traditional physical evidence, children are at a disadvantage in court unless we put in the work to find and present this critical corroborating evidence. This workshop will only be recorded and available On-Demand from August 9, 2021 until December 17, 2021.
