This case study is about a 12 year-old boy that escaped, weighing only 51 pounds, from the RV he was living in with his mom and her boyfriend. He was not enrolled in school for two years prior to his escape and was completely isolated with his abusers and his little sister. He was being starved, tied up, beaten, strangled, and had diapers taped to his body by mom's boyfriend while mom let it happen and did nothing to get him help. During the course of this presentation, you will learn about effective investigative strategies for malnourishment and physical abuse cases, how to best use medical records in malnourishment cases, how to effectively create exhibits compiling numerous types of records, charging decisions for different roles perpetrators play in abuse, gain an understanding of the long-term psychological effects and obstacles it may create when dealing with a child enduring this type of abuse. Most importantly - you will learn how this incredibly brave child saved his own life. This workshop will only be recorded and available On-Demand from August 9, 2021 until December 17, 2021.
