Bilingual Therapist Dallas Children's Advocacy Center
Child abuse cases present with numerous unique complexities for both prosecutors and therapists. Often, these two disciplines miss opportunities to work together throughout the life of the case and may not even know where to begin. From the time a child abuse case is reported, prosecutors and therapists can navigate together in an effort to obtain both healing and justice. Presenters will show the linear process beginning from reporting to the final outcome and discuss how therapists and prosecutors can collaborate along the way. The presentation will address roadblocks, communicating with families, understanding treatment goals of children in therapy, ways therapists can be utilized as both fact and expert witnesses, court readiness for the child victim and family, and the importance of communication within MDT partners. The prosecutor and therapists will discuss various situations where communications between disciplines was vital for both the criminal outcome as well as the treatment outcome for families. This workshop will only be recorded and available On-Demand from August 9, 2021 until December 17, 2021.
