Manager, Clinical Pharmacy Highmark Inc. Pittsburgh, PA
Please note this session is not accredited for continuing pharmacy education credit.
The increase in the volume and complexity of drugs approved in the United States necessitates that managed care pharmacists be prepared to evaluate not only the safety and efficacy of new-to-market medications, but also assess the comparative effectiveness and economic impact of new drug products. Potentially curative gene and cellular therapies are not only changing reimbursement models but changing the way health plans must look at the value of drug products. As future managed care professionals, student pharmacists need to be able to understand and use value assessment frameworks. This session will provide a review of value assessment frameworks, including the benefits and potential concerns of using these frameworks in clinical decision-making.
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Define value assessment frameworks.
Identify different types of value assessment frameworks.
Explain the components of value assessment frameworks.
Review the benefits and concerns of using value assessment frameworks to make health care decisions.
