Karla Strand has been the Gender and Women’s Studies Librarian (GWSL) for the University of Wisconsin System for the last 8 years. Created in 1977, the Office of the GWSL is one of the premier resources for support of scholarship and librarianship in gender, women’s, feminist, and LGBTQ+ studies in the country. With a background in US women’s history and women’s studies, Karla received her MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her doctorate in information science from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. In addition to feminist librarianship and library history, Karla’s research is focused on the history of racism, specifically focusing on the active roles women have played in white supremacy.
