Chesapeake Public Library
Angela Gaskins is a library manager for Chesapeake Public Library. At the time of the presentation recording, she managed the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Outreach and Innovation Library, a non-traditional library. Angela’s education and career choices have changed through the years. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master’s degree in communication, and teacher certification from Norfolk State University. She attained certification in school library media from Old Dominion University and went on to work as a Norfolk Public Schools library media specialist for 12 years. After completing certification in library management and a master’s degree in information science from the University of North Texas in Denton in 2018, Angela was hired to manage the Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Library. She is passionate about promoting a diverse range of library services throughout the City of Chesapeake. In 2019 she launched Black Ink: LitFest, a literary festival celebrating local authors, musicians, poets, and publishers of color. In 2021, she applied for and received an ALA American Dream grant which will allow the Library to run its first English Conversation Club to provide a safe space for non-English speakers to practice the language, gain confidence in their abilities, and make friends.
