Patricia Aldana is Chair of the Trust Committee of IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People.)
Patricia Aldana was born and brought up in Guatemala and educated in the United States. She came to Canada in 1971.She was the founder and publisher of Groundwood Books from 1978-2012; the President of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) 2006-2010; President of the IBBY Foundation/Trust (2010-); Co-Chair of the National Reading Campaign Canada (2009-2016); and chair of the Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury 2016, 2018. From 2013-2018 she acted as an international consultant to China's largest children's publisher, CCPPG, where she published the World Library and worked with young editors on how to create quality children's picture books.. She is now the Publisher of Aldana Libros, an imprint of Greystone Kids--dedicated to bringing the best books from the around the world to English speaking children. She was named to the Order of Canada in 2010 and received the Special Book Award of China in 2016 for her work bringing books from around the world to Chinese children. In 2020 she was selected as a Carle Honoree Mentor.
She has been active in the IBBY REFORMA project for unaccompanied children at the US Mexico border since 2015.
