Responsibilities: In the African & Middle Eastern Division, Laverne Page is responsible for reference and user services, collection development, coordination of the African reference collection, organization and maintenance of African Section special collections, production of web projects relating to Africa, and participation in cooperative activities with American and international librarians.
Professional associations: In the United States, I serve as the Library of Congress Ex-Officio Member of the Africana Librarians Council as well as the CRL/Cooperative Africana Materials Project. I am a member of the African Studies Association, the Lusophone African Studies Association and serve on the International Relations Committee of the Black Caucus of ALA. I have been a member of ALA for more than 22 years and of IRRT for 16 of them. As for African library associations, I am a recent and active member of the African Library & Information Associations and Institutions (AFLIA). For IFLA, I am a second term Standing Committee member of the Reference and Information Services Section.
