Juan Carlos Rodriguez is the Dean of the University Library at Cal State LA, a position he has held since May 2016. He has over 30 years experience working in higher education and has held academic library positions at Grand Valley State University, Sacramento State and UC Riverside. While at Grand Valley, he was a member of the library building steering committee that oversaw the development and planning of the Mary Idema Pew Library, an innovative and award winning student-centered active learning environment. He is proud to be the first in his family to graduate with a college degree and he is deeply committed to providing opportunities for students to achieve academic, personal and professional success. He is an active member of REFORMA: The National Association to Promote Library & Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking; the American Library Association (ALA), and EDUCAUSE. He is currently the Chair of the California State University Council of Library Deans. He is 2007 Fellow of the Frye Leadership Institute and 2012 UCLA Senior Fellow. Juan Carlos has a bachelor’s degree from UC Riverside and a Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from UCLA.
For the past five years, he has been actively engaged in transforming the Cal State LA University Library as the physical and digital center of intellectual exploration, knowledge creation and scholarly and creative engagement that will prepare students to be lifelong learners and information literate global citizens in an increasingly digital environment
