Iowa State University has partnered with ConverSight.ai to develop a platform that would allow students and staff to connect to selected library services through a natural language smart assistant, using their mobile devices and smart speakers. Patrons can use the Conversight myLibro app to search for and reserve materials, check library hours and events, review their library account, and interact with the library in a tech-savvy way. Due to the voice integration, sight-impaired students and those who have difficulty with screens are able to interact with the library like never before. And a text chat option that integrates with the voice smart assistant provides even greater accessibility to the application.
Learning Objectives:
Up completion, participant will be able to describe ways smart assistant technology can interface with library systems using APIs to connect.
Up completion, participant will be able to list barriers to adopting smart assistant technology in a library setting.
Up completion, participant will be able to demonstrate how to install and use a smart assistant interface to a library system.
