Library Services Coordinator Denver Public Schools Library Services Denver, Colorado
Learn how to boost authentic, equitable representation in your library collection through selection auditing and weeding. Participants will learn how to apply a selection audit tool to analyze representation at both a thematic and author level, to strategically select new titles that reflect a diversity of perspectives, races, cultures, and lived experiences. Participants will also learn how weeding improves collections by removing titles that promote racial, cultural and gender stereotypes. These two collection development strategies disrupt bias and racism in the selection process, lift up the voices of authors from groups that have been historically marginalized by the publishing industry, and ensure all library patrons see their identities and lived experiences reflected in the library collection.
Upon completion, participant will be able to source authentic, culturally responsive, and inclusive texts.
