Instruction Librarian Rowan University Glassboro, New Jersey
The charge of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of Core is as follows:
- To establish and maintain anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion as fundamental principles of Core; - To articulate the desired facets of anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion within Core; - To propose appropriate goals for anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion in Core membership, participation, and programming and metrics for measuring success; - To advise and coordinate with other Core committees, project teams, and the governing board on strategies to meet these goals; - To coordinate with other groups within ALA on EDI issues in the library workplace; - To report annually to the governing board on the Committee's progress.
This session will examine the points of the charge, and how the D&I Committee plans to carry out the charge over the next strategic cycle, as well as how it aligns with ALA’s Strategic Directions. Additionally, in an effort to understand our professional past so that we can make informed decisions for our collective future, this session will explore how ALCTS, LITA, and LLAMA addressed equity, diversity, and inclusion issues throughout their histories as ALA Divisions before merging into Core.
