Sandra Hobson was an occupational therapist for 40 years and has both professional and personal knowledge about scooters. When working in a large chronic care hospital, she was an Assistive Devices Program of Ontario authorizer and prescribed manual and power mobility devices. She routinely trained clients on power mobility use, including scooter use. She also initiated an annual power mobility (scooters and wheelchairs) testing program at the hospital, such that each power mobility user would be re-evaluated on his/her skills annually to determine if he/she was safe to continue using the equipment and where (i.e., indoors, on hospital grounds, or in the wider community). She then taught in the occupational therapy program at for 23 years, including power mobility use and prescription. Sandra has a physical disability and has used a scooter for personal mobility for the past 16 years.
