Katie Sewell, PT, DPT, NCS, CBIS is the Brain Injury Clinical Specialist and Director of the Atrium Health and Wingate University Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program working at Carolinas Rehabilitation main inpatient rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC. Katie graduated in 2012 from the College of Physician and Surgeons Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Columbia University in New York, New York. She went on to complete a year long Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency Program at Atrium Health in 2018. She has nine years of experience working with the neurologic patient population with a specific focus on acquired brain injury, neurodegenerative disease (specifically Parkinson's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) , and disorders of the vestibular system. Katie’s passion lies in advocacy for those without access to care and providing education on evidence based practice in underserved areas. She spent her early career working in a rural outpatient setting with a focus on advocating for her patients with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease and finding ways to provide evidence based education to improve their outcomes and their ability to access the full continuum of care. Katie is a regular guest lecturer at Wingate University DPT program and past mentor for the pro bono neurologic wellness clinic. She is Board Certified in Neurologic Physical Therapy, a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, LSVT BIG certified clinician, a member of the Neurology section of the APTA.
