Emelia Exum McCuen completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2009 from The Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. She has practiced primarily in the acute care setting for the past 11 years, but has also practiced in home health, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing and head injury re-entry clinic. Emelia currently practices at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Dallas as an advanced clinical specialist level therapist. Her areas of clinical expertise are critical care and geriatrics. In 2015 Emelia became a board certified geriatric clinical specialist and is a former item writer for the Specialization Academy of Content Experts. Emelia also has active involvement with the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy as an item writer since 2014 and is currently on the Exam Development Committee. She is the didactic chair for the Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehab Acute Care Residency program and a mentor for the medical-surgical team. Emelia is the physical medicine and rehabilitation representative on several critical care councils and is an adjunct professor at Texas Women’s University in Dallas, TX. She is also an active clinical instructor and has been for 10 years. Emelia is an active member of Disciple Central Community Church, where she serves in the Healthcare Ministry and is a Small Groups Coordinator. Last, but not least, she has been published three times in the Journal of Acute Care Physical Therapy, highlighting her interest in clinical research.
