As a Professor of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, I have gained a broad background in rehabilitation with specific training in motor control giving me the expertise, training, and motivation to successful lead this project. Starting as an NIA pre-doctoral fellow, I have developed a research agenda primarily focused on the control of movement and how it is impacted by aging and chronic disease over the last 15 years. Recently, my research has focused on investigating predictors, consequences and prevention of mobility impairment and their consequences such as falls in clinical populations. Currently, I am co-principal investigator on an externally funded RCT focusing on rehabilitation of mobility impairment in special populations. Recently was awarded a mentor-based post-doctoral fellowship focusing on mobility impairment in special populations. Additionally, I serve as a co-investigator on several other collaborative projects, and am founding director of the Illini Fall Prevention Clinic. These experiences have taught me the importance of communication with my research team and personnel as well as time and budget management. My research agenda has been externally funded since 2007 and resulted in over 170 publications.
