Mandy Shintani, has been an occupational therapist for 34 years and is a gerontologist. She is an international conference speaker on Nordic walking for rehabilitation and fitness and recently presented at the Functional Aging Institute, International 200 years of Parkinson’s Disease Conference (AUS), ACPIN Neuro conference (UK), Western Regional OT Spring Symposium (USA), Davis Phinney Foundation, Parkinson's and Movement Disorder Alliance (USA), Canadian Occupational Therapy Conference and the National Fall Prevention conference (Canada) to name a few.
5,500+ therapists and fitness professionals worldwide have completed the courses she developed for fitness and rehabilitation. These courses are CCU approved in the USA with ProCert (FSBPT), ACSM and FAI and 10 associations in Canada. Sixteen years ago, with her skills as an OT, she developed the evidence-based Activator Poles (patented) and technique specifically for rehabilitation, which are the focus of 18 independent studies. The research on the Activator poles were presented at the International Stroke Congress (CAD), National UK Physiotherapy Conference, National Physiotherapy Conference (CAD) and the National Fall Prevention Conference (CAD). She is the founder and co-director of Urban Poling Inc. She has been featured numerous times in international media and was a finalist in the prestigious YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Innovation & Entrepreneurship.
