Director of Rehabilitation & Integrative Services
Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Philadelphia
As Director of Oncology Rehabilitation and Integrative Services, Gina Smith directly and indirectly supports adult oncology patients. Smith joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2009. She began her career at the hospital as a physical therapist and has evolved her role through the years.
At CTCA®, Smith has developed and targeted enhancing patient quality of life from diagnosis through survivorship. She worked closely with doctors, nurses and clinicians to develop the Philadelphia Lymphedema Clinic at CTCA Philadelphia. Lymphedema can be a side effect from cancer especially for breast cancer patients, that often needs to be managed or monitored throughout life. Smith has also developed other programs to help patients with symptom management focused on bone health, sexual wellness, pelvic floor and vestibular rehabilitation.
“Cancer patients and their families feel supported the moment they walk through the doors at CTCA,” says Smith. “Each patient has a multidisciplinary care team, focused on exploring cutting-edge treatment options and helping to manage any side effects. My goal is to help my patients maintain their quality of life during cancer treatment and regain their optimal quality of life in survivorship.”
Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and currently pursuing a MBA in Healthcare at Widener University. She holds a certification in lymphedema management through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies. Prior to coming to CTCA, Smith gained clinical experience in a variety of healthcare settings.
Smith was born and raised in Philadelphia, which she considers a cultured, diverse and historic city. She loves to hike the miles of trails in the Wissahickon with her partner and two dogs. She also enjoys going to the Schuylkill River to stand-up paddle board.
