My experiences as a practicing physical therapist, my doctoral studies as a neuroscientist, and my postdoctoral training in health services research have helped me develop a multidisciplinary understanding of physical function, rehabilitation and basic neurological factors that mediate behavior, recovery of function, and community participation. My broad research interest focuses on identifying and developing mechanisms to implement new care delivery models that better address the needs of individuals. Specifically, I am interest in patient-centered mechanisms that promote physical activity as part of usual care, to bridge rehabilitation with long-term community recovery. To do so, I have focused my research in the assessment of rehabilitation services in acute care settings and the evaluation of physical activity after hospital discharge, primarily in individuals that have had a stroke. Additionally, I have explored different complementary and integrative practices to address the unique cultural needs of patients.
