Dr. Richard Gach, PT, DPT, CMPT, KTCC, CEAS. Rick currently works as a Physical Therapist III in the cardiac ICU and cardiac step-down unit at Memorial Regional Hospital. He is currently developing, designing, and implementing post-surgical treatment guidelines for patients after cardiac surgery. This year Rick presented at the APTA CSM in San Antonio, TX and at the TACVPR in Dallas, TX discussing cardiac rehabilitation approaches. He is currently working on three research projects discussing driving after sternotomy, increasing the percentage of discharging patients home from the hospital as opposed to secondary facilities after cardiac surgery, and comparing lifting forces generated by acute and sub-acute post-sternotomy patients. He is collaborating with the Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgical Department to present research for publication and is currently collaborating with several facilities in the United States, Canada, and Australia for the purposes of presenting research regarding the implementation of the “Keep Your Move in the Tube” mindful movement after sternotomy philosophy. Additionally, he is currently working with the Exercise Physiology Phase 2 Cardiac Rehab Department to re-design the referral process from Phase 1 to Phase 2 Cardiac Rehab.
