Brigitte Desport, DPS, OTR/L, BCP, ATP is an Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Associate Professor for the Occupational Therapy Program at the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. She is responsible for starting, executing and sustaining initiatives for students and faculty, and forming collaborations with other schools, colleges, and community organizations. Dr. Desport is an occupational therapist, specializing in early intervention and pediatrics with a concentration in high-risk infancy. One of her goals is to prepare students to be culturally intelligent when providing services to oppressed communities, an initiative that brings various people together to achieve a useful result. She does this through her teaching, research, and as a faculty advisor to student associations. Dr. Desport’s research interests focus on the transition process of the infants and their families from the NICU to home and exploring the role of occupational therapy in underserved communities in the U.S. and internationally.
