Dr. Leon Kirschner OTD, MPH, OTL, ATP, C/NDT is the Director of Occupational Therapy at the Young Adult Institute's International Academy of Hope, a school offering comprehensive services to students with complex disabilities as a result of brain injury. Dr. Kirschner has been practicing as an occupational therapist in various settings and capacities with varying populations since graduating from SUNY Downstate in 2000. He has presented at various conferences nationally and internationally, taught professional and continuing education courses, and lectured in Occupational Therapy training programs. Specialty areas include Assessment/Evaluation, particularly functional Assessment; Environmental evaluation and modification; feeding; therapeutic handling to facilitate more functional movement patterns for people with neuromuscular-based disabilities; and use of assistive technology. He also has an interest in, experience, and training in global health. He earned his OTD at Boston University in 2020. His doctoral project was the creation of a typology of terminology to describe environmental and contextual factors that affect the participation of individuals and groups in pertinent activities.
