Julie is a clinical researcher who has worked with stroke patients for over 30 years. She is Senior Principal Research Fellow at Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, Melbourne, Australia where she co-heads the Stroke Theme and leads a research team focused on new interventions to improve stroke outcomes. Julie is a world leading rehabilitation trialist and is Principal Investigator of international, early rehabilitation trials (eg AVERT, AVERT DOSE). Julie is also Director, National Health and Medical Research Council (Australia) Centre of Research Excellence in Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery with researchers working from bench to bedside. She’s led two international Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtables to develop new research standards, culminating in development of the new International Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Alliance (ISRRA) in 2020. Julie is also a strong advocate for Women in Science and her contribution to science and science advocacy was recognised in 2019 with an Order of Australia award and 2020 investiture into the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Science.
