OVERVIEW We make the lives of physical therapists easier and help physical therapy patients improve their gait. Our flagship product, the NewGait, is a wearable locomotor rehab device that provides proprioceptive feedback to promote neuromuscular re-education and accelerate recovery. Our mission is to promote recovery, increase mobility, improve quality of life, and RESTORE HOPE to those with movement limitations through our innovative products.
PROBLEM STATEMENT The central problem is that patients do not have access to functional home rehab tools to use in between rehab sessions and after discharge. Clinicians also do not have an affordable functional exercise tool for clinical use. This leads to patient regression and diminished long-term improvements. The NewGait helps all patients with mobility deficits, particularly those with gait deficits stemming from neurologic, orthopedic, or chronic pain conditions. We are currently focusing on those with the following neurologic conditions (annual US case stats in parentheses): multiple sclerosis (400k), stroke (800k), and spinal cord injury (350k). The NewGait will revolutionize patient care in the following ways For clinicians: allows for them to perform cuing for proper locomotion without labor-intensive manual cuing For patients: it is an affordable and effective rehab tool that facilitates at home functional rehab training to maintain and improve mobility
SOLUTION The NewGait consists of a waist belt, shoulder harness, limb straps, and strategically placed elastic bands of varying durometer. When customized correctly for a specific gait impairment, it promotes proper locomotion during each phase of the gait cycle. Patients show marked improvements in various gait parameters and are thus motivated to show up to scheduled PT sessions. Development stage: currently in market. Limited commercial availability Future plans: Integrate sensors to track and monitor gait. This can be used by the clinician to monitor adherence to a home exercise program Currently seeking research partners
COMPETITION Our competitors are other devices and products physical therapists and patients would use to treat gait and posture disorders. These include simple low-tech solutions such as AFO/KAFO (ankle-foot orthotic/knee-ankle foot orthotic), as well as high-tech solutions such as exoskeletons and FES (functional electrical stimulation) devices. Barriers to adoption and strategies to overcome them: There isn’t much research on our product - no one on the team comes from academia, so we must develop strategic partnerships to get published research conducted on our products Clinician complacency - utilize B2C marketing strategies to drive home the benefits the device has for both the clinician and his/her patients.
