The COVID-19 pandemic posed a critical threat to population’s health and wellbeing. Healthcare systems, including rehabilitation services have been profoundly impacted by the challenges faced of treating a high number of acutely ill individuals. Furthermore, the general population has endured many challenges related to the lifestyle changes required to prevent rapid infection spread. These lifestyle changes included social distancing, avoiding busy public places, reducing (or avoiding entirely) crowds and large group meetings, and staying at home as much as possible. Lifestyle modifications are important to enhance individual well-being. Adhering to a healthy diet and physical activity recommendations can support our immune system and reduce our risk of respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus COVID-19. In this symposium, we will 1) explore how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted healthcare systems and delivery of rehabilitation care and 2) provide suggestions to maintain a healthy lifestyle during the pandemic.
