Limb Restoration Rehabilitation
Driving is a major component of independence within American society. Return to driving after limb loss can be challenging, especially when the right side is affected. While individual factors such as level and cause of limb loss affect return to driving, access, and availability of driving rehabilitation is a major factor as well. Gaps in understanding driving safety, driving habits, and mechanisms for return to safe driving were identified. We present a summary of impairments and mechanisms contributing to challenges with return to driving, driving options and their risk-benefit, and both system and policy guidelines for return to safe driving.
