UnHye Joe is currently completing a Ph.D. in law at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, supported by a government-funded, full Ph.D. scholarship from the Republic of Korea. Joe is currently working on a study entitled ‘Northeast Asian sovereignty problems in the 21st century (in German)' under the supervision of Prof. Michael Brenner. Joe’s research compares the sovereignty-features and games in East Asia with the EU and analyzes the causes of insufficiency of the institutional framework of East Asia’s cooperation. It also involves a comparative constitutional study of founding values in the EU for a legislative process toward an East Asian community-building.
UnHye Joe holds an LL.M. degree in constitutional and European law from Yonsei University in Seoul and an LL.B. from Ewha Woman’s University in Seoul. Joe worked as a research assistant at Yonsei University during the master's studies and visited the University of Münster as a DAAD-scholarship holder. Prior to enrolling at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Joe received a scholarship of the European Integration Research from the government of the Republic of Korea and Yonsei University, funding for the master's thesis on the EU from the Yonsei-SERI EU Centre, and a fellowship from the government-funded Korea Foundation.
