Our mission is to improve the quality of life and the health of individuals with food allergies.

About us

FARE works on behalf of the 33 million Americans who have food allergies, including all those at risk for life-threatening anaphylaxis. This potentially deadly disease affects 1 in every 13 children in the United States – or roughly 2 in every classroom. FARE was formed in 2012 as the result of a merger between the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network and the Food Allergy Initiative. FARE’s mission is to improve the quality of LIFE and the HEALTH of individuals with food allergies, and to provide them HOPE through the promise of new treatments. We do this by funding providing evidence-based education and resources, undertaking advocacy at all levels of government, increasing awareness of food allergy as potentially life-threatening and a growing public health issue and by investing in world-class research that advances treatment and understanding of the disease. "My name is Aidan and at 4 months old I was diagnosed with my first food allergy. I was an extremely unsettled baby with reflux who started getting really bad eczema to the point where I couldn’t open my eyes in the morning. My mumma knew something wasn’t right and took me to every specialist until they agreed to refer me for early allergy testing. I have since been diagnosed with allergies to Milk, egg, wheat, tree nuts, sesame, soy, beef, mustard, melon, prawn & more. I have had anaphylaxis 3 times over the past year and I am only 2.5 years old. My mummy, daddy & the rest of my family do their best and to keep me safe but sometimes exercise will cause a reaction to a food that i previously could eat! I am intuitively a picky eater now which makes desensitising me to foods at home tricky for my mumma. However I did pass two food challenges and now eat peanut & chickpeas at home. I am starting immunotherapy to wheat in June so please wish me luck 😊 I would also like to give a big shout out to my nursery who manage to keep me allergy free and have changed all of their sensory play to fit around my allergies! My parents try to let me lead as normal life as possible despite the dangers that present themselves every time we leave the house & I wanted to share my story to let other parents of food allergy kids that it will be ok and there are options available to make life easier!" -Aidan Hilali Submit your story for a chance to be featured on an upcoming #FARESundayStory: https://bit.ly/3WNio3g

🗽 Exciting news for New York’s food allergy community! 🌟 The FARE-championed bill has passed the NY State Legislature, requiring large public venues to have epinephrine auto-injectors available. Once signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, this life-saving measure will protect our 2 million food allergy families across the state. Kudos to State Senator Andrew S. Gounardes, Assemblymember Rosenthal, Lucia Zaremba, and all advocates who made this possible! 💙 #FoodAllergyAwareness https://lnkd.in/gNVgx5yS

In recognition of #FoodAllergyAwarenessWeek, we hosted various events on campus to raise awareness about the severity of living with food allergies. First, we welcomed leaders from Food Allergy and Research Education (FARE) where they discussed all aspects of patient advocacy and how they work to meet the needs of patients, caregivers, and clinicians. Second, we hosted a conversation with food allergy patient, Riya, and her mom, Dr. Ruchi Gupta, who is a preeminent food allergy researcher. They shared their experience living with food allergies and Riya’s inspiring role in educating and empowering other kids with health conditions. We are appreciative to all of our guests who shared their personal experiences. Events like these reinforce the importance of supporting and raising awareness for the food allergy community.

"I’ve had allergies for as long as I can remember. Trees, dust, animals etc but I didn’t experience serious food allergies and the severity of them to the fullest until I was 17. I was eating a cheesecake completely unaware that cashews were baked into the bottom of the crust, it was not visible or labeled on the menu until after my incident. Within minutes, I had developed rashes, my oxygen lowered by 30% and I knew something was severely wrong. I was taken to the hospital immediately and my nurse saved my life. My food allergies continued to grow and I developed contamination OCD as a result of the paralyzing fear of anxious situations due to my allergies. Allergy anxiety unfortunately is highly stigmatized and misjudged. I had a peer go behind my back and say they would put nuts in my food to see what would happen. Since then I’ve been able to the best of my ability to avoid allergens in cosmetics, foods, etc and carry all necessary medications. I want all allergy suffers to know it’s okay to advocate for yourself without shame at restaurants, airports, etc. and it is really that serious despite what anyone who doesn't know might say. Grateful to be able to share my story!" Submit your story for a chance to be featured on an upcoming #FARESundayStory: https://bit.ly/3WNio3g
