Dr. Hwang is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Children’s National Hospital and the Associate Chief of Oncology there. He expands on his role as a clinical neuro-oncologist by designing and running early phase clinical trials, with a concentration in immunotherapy. He is currently PI on multiple early phase protocols, including the first checkpoint inhibitor trial in pediatric CNS malignancies through the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium and a cytotoxic T cell trial at CNMC; Dr. Hwang is also the vice-chair of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium Immunotherapy Working Group, the Director of Clinical Neuro-immunotherapeutics at CNMC, and serves in several advisory committees involving immunotherapy in pediatric brain tumors. He also continues to be involved with targeted therapeutic projects and trials, with close collaborations with translational and bench scientists active in the field, and is driven to help develop cures for brain cancer while preserving quality of life.
