Assoc. Prof./ Priv.-Doz. Dr. Dieter Henrik Heiland, Neurosurgeon at the Medical-Center University of Freiburg. He studied medicine at the Ruhr-University Bochum, graduating in 2012. In his thesis, He explored the epigenetic regulation of brain tumors and its impact on transcriptional diversity. As a postdoc, He worked in Irina Mader’s group on the investigation of radiogenomic associations and metabolic alterations of malignant gliomas. Driven by the desire to study the importance of brain microenvironment, He started his group in 2016 to investigate glioma-induced spatiotemporal alterations of the tumor microenvironment focusing on spatial transcriptomics and single-cell genomics.
