Dr. Vineet Chopra is a tenured Associate Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Hospital Medicine and Research Scientist at the University of Michigan and VA Ann Arbor Health System.
A career hospitalist, Dr. Chopra’s research and clinical interests are dedicated to improving the safety of hospitalized patients through prevention of hospital-acquired complications. His work focuses on identifying and preventing complications such as infection and thrombosis associated with central venous catheters, with a particular emphasis on peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). He is first author of the Michigan Appropriateness Guide for Intravenous Catheters (MAGIC), criteria that establish the appropriateness of PICC use and are in use in hundreds of hospitals across the US and the world. He has received grant support and research funding from the National Institute of Health, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation of Michigan, the AVA foundation, Veterans Health Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Heart Association among others.
