City of Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services
Brian Turnage is a 22 year veteran of the City of Richmond (Virginia) Department of Fire and Emergency Services. He is currently a battalion chief and also serves as the Chief of Special Operations for the department. Throughout his career, he has been fortunate to have significant tours with the HTR team, Water Rescue Team, in the Training Division as well as serving in multiple roles within the Administration Division. He has been serving in a leadership role in the organization for over 15 years.
Brian began studying leadership while earning his Bachelors Degree in Business and Economics from the Virginia Military Institute. During this time he was also a four-year varsity letterman as a catcher on the baseball team. Brian also earned a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. Coaching baseball is a passion of Brian's and he is currently coaching at a local private high school in Richmond as well as working with high school level baseball players in elite travel and showcase programs. To enhance his coaching and leadership abilities, Brian completed a Master's of Education in Coaching Education and Athlete Development from Xavier University in 2019. This program allowed Brian to realize how similar coaching athletes is to leadership within the fire service.
