Nathan Stoermer is a firefighter, paramedic, suicide attempt survivor, ardent supporter and speaker on firefighter mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Currently, Stoermer is the Fire Chief for the Greensburg (IN) Fire Department. Chief Stoermer holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from Eastern Kentucky University, an associates degree in Paramedic Science from Ivy Tech Community College, along with various fire & EMS certifications including being designated as a Chief Fire Officer from the CPSE and currently enrolled in the EFOP. Chief Stoermer is driven to leave the company under which he serves better than he found it.
Chief Stoermer has spoken on firefighter mental health to firefighters of all ranks, mental health professionals, and chaplains and peer supporters. Most recently, he participated in a suicide awareness video being produced by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Cheif Stoermer also conducts applied research into the causes of firefighter suicide along with what departments do currently to support their members. His article on addressing the concern of firefighter suicide was printed in Volume 1 ISsue 2 of the Crisis, Stress, and Human Resilience: An Intenational Jourmal.
