Assistant Chief Thomas J. Currao has been a member of the New York City Fire Department for 27 Years and currently serves as the Chief of Counterterrorism and Emergency Preparedness for the FDNY. Chief Currao began his career as a firefighter in the South Bronx, assigned to Ladder Company 19. In his 26 years he has served as a Fire Marshal, conducting cause and origin investigations, Lieutenant, Captain and Company Commander, Battalion Chief and Deputy Chief, working in all 5 boroughs of New York City. Chief Currao served as Chief of Intelligence and Risk Management for the FDNY Center for Terrorism and Disaster Preparedness for 4 years, overseeing a team of analysts, developing intelligence products for the first responder community and briefing senior FDNY officials at both the classified and unclassified level. Chief Currao is a graduate of the John Jay School of Criminal Justice with a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and a Master of Arts in Security Studies, from the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School.
