The multitude of ways that fire departments collect, analyze and use data has grown significantly over the past decade, but so has the realization of the challenges around fire data. In this time what we’ve learned is that there is no single fire data problem, nor a single fire data solution. There are a number of important efforts across the fire service to improve fire data. There are many opportunities for your department to get involved, to share input, and to benefit from these efforts. This session will highlight 5 major overarching efforts that cut across the fire service that will begin to improve how we collectively, as an industry, collect, analyze, and use data.
Discuss at least one rationale for identifying and standardizing job performance requirements for analysts.
Explain how differences in the processes by which fire and emergency service agencies measure data while using common terms can undermine the credibility of local analyzes.
Explain at least one benefit and one challenge of standardizing community risk reduction data in terms of comparing data across communities.
