Much of a fire service executive’s time is spent negotiating with and persuading another party. Whether it be a council, board, boss, labor group, vendor, or staff, the executive is engaged in some aspect of negotiation. In this session, you will learn the basics of negotiation and persuasion to arm yourself with the tools necessary to reach the best possible outcome.
The participant will learn the possibilities and limitations of negotiated approaches in their role as chief officer.
The participant will recognize the range of applications of negotiation, from dispute resolution to consensus-building
The participant will learn to identify multiple negotiation tactics and strategies and how to utilize them in work and life
The participant will learn components of persuasion and decision-making to improve their skills in negotiating.
