This presentation uses a lecture-based format while still encouraging participant interaction. We review 4 to 6 "hot topics" that seem to get firefighters and their supervisors in trouble with respect to managing (or, not managing) administrative and personnel matters in a timely and correct way. New officers often struggle with the buddy-to-boss transition, and this presentation is designed with the goal of arming new officers with tools and ideas they can take back to their departments and use right away. The presentation is offered from the fire chief/agency head perspective to help keep those new officers on the right side of issues and challenges as they come along.
Participants will learn and discuss 4 to 6 relevant hot topics affecting the fire service from the personnel and administrative perspective.
Participants will receive guidance and suggestions on how to best manage, at their level, personnel and administrative challenges in a way that positions them and the agency for success.
Participants will attain a perspective on all of the various external stakeholders who are potentially impacted by significant administrative and personnel matters.
