This session will look at realistic expectations for dealing with cancer in your fire department. What a chief and/or chief officer can do to lessen the impact of cancer on department members. The items convered in this session are based on the realities of firefighter cancer from a survivor. What activities or procedures can we put in place before it is too late. The session will look at the reality of delayed recognition and the impact on the memebers of the department. The session will provide multiple positive outcomes that a chief officer cant take home and implement.
The participant will grasp how big the cancer problem is in the fire service.
The participant will have a better understanding of the treatment process from a survivor.
The partiipant will be given six processes that can be put in place before injury/illness or cancer occur in the organization.
The participants will will discuss members of the organization that we overlook for cancer prevention.
