In an increasingly difficult "political" environment, it is more important than ever for Fire Chiefs and leaders in the fire service to understand their role in politics, and to become inspirational "politicians". Fire and life safety is always our priority; however, the Fire Chief who fails to understand navigating politics is a Fire Chief destined to fail. By introducing participants to Grandma Jones and the "10 chairs," Chief Bashoor will drive home the need to become more politically astute -- both from an elected politics and a cultural/political position. Politics isn't always about elections and handshakes, yet being a fire chief is almost always about "politics".
To share information that will help them connect the chief's or officer's mission with community needs.
To provide guidance for officers to recognize the difference between elected and cultural politics.
To help participants connect traditional community risk redcution activities with the community relatities of LODDs, fire deaths and firefighter suicide.
