Dr Leroi has a special interest in the mental health of people with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), behavioural disturbances in dementia, and interventions for dementia. Her interest in this area started at Johns Hopkins University in the USA, following specialty training in Canada. In 2002, she moved to the University of Manchester and now works clinically in England’s National Health Service (NHS) until 2019 when she joined the Global Brain Health Institute at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. She undertakes clinical research in dementia, and is chief investigator of a large trans-EU clinical research programme, SENSE-Cog (www.sense-cog-eu), involving eight countries and which aims to understand the overlap between hearing and vision problems and dementia. In 2018 Professor Leroi visited Japan on a JSPS visiting professorship to explore different approaches to dementia care using new technology.
