Diana Berman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at UNT where she directs the Laboratory of Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces (NanoMI). Berman’s research interests are in synthesis and characterization of nanostructures, surfaces, and interfaces for precise control and improvement of their physical properties and performance. Berman is specifically interested in characteristics of the two-dimensional (2-D) materials, such as nanoscale contact evolution, interaction of material with environment, and macroscale mechanical properties. Berman has published several high-impact-factor papers with over 2000 citations (in journals Science, Nature Communications, Advanced Functional Materials, ACS Nano, etc.). She will serve as the Co-PI of the proposed project and will lead the materials synthesis and sensor design efforts. Her expertise in understanding behavior of 2-D materials under coupled mechanical-electrical stresses will be pivotal to successful design of reliable flexible sensors with prolonged operation lifetime
