Dr. Gerber is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Rheumatology sub-specialty and the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She was the Chief, Rehabilitation Medicine Department at CC, NIH 1975-2005. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Currently, she is faculty at George Mason University (University Professor). She established the Center for the Study of Chronic Illness and Disability and Laboratory for the Study and Simulation of Human Movement. She is Rheumatology Section Chief and Director for Research, Medicine Service Line, Inova Health System.
Her research has focused on human movement, its relationship to pain syndromes and mechanisms and assessment of fatigue. She has written 60 textbook chapters; authored 180 peer reviewed manuscripts. She has been a grantee of NIH, NSF, NIDILLR, PNC and Jackson Foundation. She is the recipient of multiple awards from USPHS, NIH and professional societies.
