Xiaolei Hu MD, PhD is a physician, researcher and educator specialized in rehabilitation medicine. She acts as a consultant physiatrist and at NeuroRehabilitation, University Hospital of Umeå, Sweden. As a senior university lecture, Dr. Hu is leading a stroke rehabilitation research team at Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation, Umeå University.
Dr. Hu was a physician in China when she moved to Sweden as a guest researcher in 1995. She received a PhD from Umeå University in 2003 within stroke research. During her postdoc period, Dr. Hu studied the role of neuroplasticity in rehabilitation. After received Swedish MD in 2009, Dr. Hu completed a rotating internship and residency training; and became certified as a consult physiatrist in Sweden.
Dr. Hu is driving research and clinical developments with focusing on implementation of evidence-based motor and cognitive rehabilitations into the clinical praxis in acquired brain injury care and management. She is a principle investigator of an ongoing multicenter RCT on digital health in Sweden. In her research team, there are 3 PhD students, research nurses, bio-medical engineers, statistician and project coordinator. She is used to lead and co-operate with the multidisciplinary teams in inpatient and outpatient care. Dr. Hu has rich teaching and supervising experiences within undergraduate and graduate educations.
Dr. Hu has been a board member 2012-2020 and a treasurer 2016-2020 in Swedish Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (SFRM). She represents SFRM as an international delegate in European Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine (ESPRM) and international Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM) as well as the national manger in European Union of Medical Specialists - Section of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (UEMS-PRM). She is a Chair of Stroke SISC in ESPRM and International Liaison and Executive Board in the Stroke iSIG in ACRM.
