Mu Huang is a clinician scientist and an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Clinical Research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Concurrently, he is also an associate scientist at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine investigating the implications of analgesic medications on the autonomic nervous system.
The global focus of Dr. Huang’s research is to examine autonomic alterations in clinical populations (e.g. chronic pain and traumatic brain injury) as well as during stress (e.g. opioid consumption and extreme environment exposure). The mission of this research is to gain a better understanding of underlying physiology during these functional disturbances in order to help improve clinical care and treatment by health care providers.
Dr. Huang holds a PhD in Applied Physiology from Southern Methodist University and a BA in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to his research background, Dr. Huang is a licensed physical therapist and holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of Southern California. He received further clinical training through the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
