Dr. Brunner is a professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has been involved with the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) population at UAB since 1998 and leads an acute inpatient rehabilitation service at UAB. . Dr. Brunner has been involved in the research of TBI since 2002 and has been part of the TBI model systems research since that time. This is a national data base system that was set up by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation research now known as the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation. It is intended to look at longitudinal data of patients with TBI from the time of onset, through the course of recovery, and follows the patient’s long term to evaluate outcomes.
