Carmel Montgomery recently completed her PhD in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alberta and is now a postdoctoral fellow with the Institute of Health Economics in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She has previous clinical and project management experience in ICU, palliative home care, quality improvement, patient safety and process improvement.
Carmel’s research is focused on the impact of frailty on health services use and clinical and cost outcomes among older patients with critical illness. Currently, she is evaluating the evidence available to inform frailty inclusive care pathways across the care continuum as well as an economic evaluation of renal replacement therapy approaches in the ICU. The broad aim of her research is to evaluate outcomes associated with critical illness in our most vulnerable patients.
