William Carter is a clinically active academic rehabilitation medicine physician with specialty training in spinal cord injury medicine. He began his medical career as a consult physician at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Hospital, a level 1 trauma center in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. He is very active in multiple domains of academic medicine with concentration in medical education and teaching. He has received the teaching faculty of the year award in PM&R in 2017, and lectures in the community, and all throughout levels of medical training from undergraduate through the faculty level, both locally and nationally. He has lead and created a community based oncology rehabilitation program and serves as the departmental quality improvement representative for the health system. His other passions include community outreach and improvement of systems based practice.
