Dr. Li is a third-year post-doctoral fellow at the University of Alabama at Birmingham department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Her research focuses on understanding the risk factors for the development of metabolic disorders in spinal cord injury (SCI) with the goal of developing interventions to improve overall health of individuals living with SCI. She is leading a spinal cord injury model system nutrition interventional trial which evaluates the effects of a low-carbohydrate/high-protein diet on metabolic health in SCI. She has extensive training in the field of nutrition, gut microbiome, metabolomics, and statistics. She recently was awarded the Mary Switzer Fellowship to study the relationship between gut microbiome and insulin resistance in SCI.
