Valerie Hill is an Assistant Professor and rehabilitation scientist with experience in neurological rehabilitation, primarily stroke rehabilitation, and spinal cord injury community programming. She has also worked in a variety of clinical settings including, rehab, acute care, and skilled nursing, worked in research here at UC CAHS, and has even taught at Xavier University for many years. Valerie recently completed her postdoctoral fellowship at University of Southern California Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy where she concurrently worked with the University of California, Los Angeles in the Stroke Prevention and Intervention Research Program. There, she also served as a Project Manager for the "Outpatient Transformation Through Community-Based Care Delivery and Utilization of Peer Mentors" program for patients with spinal cord injury. In February 2016, she was the first occupational therapist to ever be awarded a NIH K99/R00 grant, entitled “Live Well after Stroke: A Community-based Intervention for Individuals with Stroke” from NIMHD. Now at UC, she will continue her research (R00) and develop other research interests in community-based life management interventions, mitigating disease risk factors, and improving quality of life for individuals from multiple populations.
